The Best Spring Flowers: Geraniums!
Geraniums are showy flowers that bring a lot of color to your garden from spring all the way into summer! They have special blooms and ruffly leaves that make them stand out. You can plant them on their own or mix them with other flowers, but they’re always a top pick for spring.
Calliope and Caliente Geraniums are special types of geraniums that come from mixing two different varieties: zonal and ivy geraniums. This mix has cultivated them to be exceptional at handling heat, which is great for places like Texas. They last longer in the summer and have strong, pretty flowers that don’t need a lot of cleaning up. They grow well in sunny spots and look great with plants like Petunias, Asparagus Fern, Dusty Miller, and many more!
For the best results, plant geraniums where they get full sun in the morning but some shade in the afternoon. Make sure the soil isn’t too compact. To get your soil ready, loosen it up to 12 inches deep, add a few inches of compost or other organic matter, and mix in some slow-release fertilizer. Then, smooth out the soil. Geraniums need a lot of nutrients, so feed them with a water-soluble fertilizer every two weeks or a slow-release fertilizer every four to six weeks.
Calliope Geraniums are known for their bright colors and ability to handle heat. They like morning sun and some afternoon shade. They grow quickly and have deep green leaves. You can find them in colors like dark red, hot pink, and lavender rose. They’re perfect for hanging baskets and window boxes because they grow a bit like vines.
Caliente Geraniums live up to their name with super bright colors! They’re great for hot weather and come in bold shades like hot coral and orange. They spread out and look fantastic in large pots, baskets, or as part of your garden.
